"Bad data passed in; Return to Home" When seleting multipage leads to add in the Target list

Hi, I am using google chrome version 58.0.3029.19 beta (64-bit) on windows 10 and while adding/selecting 99 leads (included into 5 pages of about 20 leads eachone), then I get immediately this error: Bad data passed in; Return to Home.
If instead I add only the first page of 20 leads it works.
If instead I add the second page only of 20 leads, then it att less of 10 leads.
And if I add the leads from the last page it don’t add even one lead.
It looks like a very strange behaving, especially because on the same server configuration with sugarcrm 6.5.24 it works perfectly instead.
Please help!

There seems to be a bug somewhere but until you can make it consistently reproducible it’s not easy to report it and get something done.

What do you have in your logs? There might be some more clues there. Check suitecrm.log and php_errors.log (you might have to turn this on, if you haven’t done so yet).

It looks like some php file, starting with the license text, is getting put into a Smarty tag, which it definitely shouldn’t be! There must be some missing terminator or quote mark that is causing things to get mixed up.

You also have some problem with cron (though it shouldn’t be related to this problem), you’re getting an error every minute.

The cron error is weird, it looks as though cron.php is called from the web server (that’s why it complains it has to be called from command-line, CLI). But you’re calling it from the command-line (php -f), so I don’t know why this happens. BTW, make sure you’re not adding that line on root’s crontab, but rather to the your web-server user’s crontab.

Trying a different theme could be an informative test.

The video might help, yes. If it’s not too much work. Otherwise, maybe a more detailed description of steps to produce the error (and maybe share a sample file to import a bunch of leads and save work to whoever wants to test).

But I’m not promising I’m going to debug this error for you, It might be too complicated, so it’s up to you to decide how much to invest in this, and whether to report this on Github or not.

About the “cron” question. You can check the crontab of individual users like this:
crontab -l -u www-data
crontab -l -u root

Your setting shouldn’t be on root’s crontab, but rather on the crontab of the user your web-server runs under. Otherwise you will get permissions problems.

Here’s a short crontab lesson:

There is more than one crontab; there is one per user.

We are interested in two crontabs. One is root’s crontab, because it’s what most people use inadvertently, and it is incorrect to use for this purposes. The other is your web-server user’s crontab, which is the correct one to use. I will assume this user is called www-data on your system, but you should check that.

To list a specific user’s crontab, use
sudo crontab -l -u username

To edit that same crontab, use
sudo crontab -e -u username

Now, the line you put into the crontab is always the same, as advised in your Admin/Schedulers screen:

*    *    *    *    *     cd /home/vendiamo/public_html/clientis; php -f cron.php > /dev/null 2>&1

You just need to make sure it goes into the correct crontab.

A final element of complication is that you might be editing crontab using this command, or an equivalent command to this:
sudo nano /etc/crontab

In this case, on some systems you will be taken (without knowing) to root’s crontab. On others, like recent Ubuntus, you will go into the “system-wide crontab”, which serves all users, and so has an extra column for the username. Read the comments inside the file to know if this is the case.

In those cases, the required command would be something like

*    *    *    *    *     www-data cd /home/vendiamo/public_html/clientis; php -f cron.php > /dev/null 2>&1

(note the added column with the username).

I hope this clears things up for you.

The fastcomet assistance has patched the cronjob with htis line:
php-cli SERVERPATH/SUITECRM/cron.php > /dev/null 2>&1
I will test it soonest as possible and then I will let you know, thanks a lot for the teachings!

is it possible for you to change this text “/home/vendiamo/public_html/clientis” into “SERVERPATH/SUITECRM” just for server privacy purpose… or it is not so much useful against hackers because they don’t know the web domains?

Make sure that Fastcommet are using the correct user’s crontab. They probably are, but you never know.

I don’t understand what you mean by “me” changing the text of your path; I only used it after you used it. I don’t think it’s probably any big security concern, but anyway I still always obfuscate my domains and paths before posting anything online… anything that makes things a bit harder for any hacker is positive…
