Hy all,
We have good background on SugarCRM/SuiteCRM implementation, and we consider Suite as a great solution for extensive customization scenarios. There’s pro’s and con’s of course, however all systems have them, even the “flagship” ones.
Despite having some great features, we haven’t yet jumped into Suite 8. We’re monitoring it since the beginning, however the lack of code posted together with the lack of tutorials are causing us some concerns about upgrade feasibility.
Therefore we’re placing the question here to all community:
-
Have you upgraded to Suite8 already?
-
Can you perform the same level of customizations that we’re possible previously?
-
Any strong limitations comparing to the 7.x versions?
As far as we are concerned, we have not upgraded any of our clients to SuiteCRM 8:
- We only install ESR (extended support) versions and it’s only planned for SuiteCRM 8.6
- There are quite a few missing features
- There is no developer documentation.
Our understanding is that a few PHP/Javascript customizations are not yet possible in edit view.
Examples:
- Calculate a field from one (or more) field. A basic example is calculating opportunity probability based on sales stage which does not work (and we have more complex calculations)
- Hide/Show, Make required or not, enable/disable a field based on other field(s) value(s) or user role (for example prevent users with sales role to edit Account and Amount of a closed won opportunity, while allowing that for admins or sales administration role)
- Verify some fields based on other fields (example: check that date2 > date1)
- dynamically populate dropdowns (in PHP view.edit.php or JavaScript ajax calls)
Also, a few admin features can’t be done from the admin page.

This was exactly what we were trying to understand. Thank you for the feedback!
Been working on a SuiteCRM 8.2.4 project for a couple of months and I’m rather regretting using SuiteCRM V8 rather that V7 for this. There seem to be many issues, as you can see on this forum and the problems don’t seem to be getting fixed. Just a general observation.
I regret switching to SuiteCRM 8 too. It’s buggy, the interface is much slower and currently almost impossible to extend or change. I would advise to delay your decision and stick to v7.
We don’t like the new approach.
The speed increases significantly with opcache.
I regret starting my SuiteCRM with v8. I should have started with v7 where it works. Basically v8 has been a wasted year and a lot of frustration. I concur with the suggestion to delay your decision and stick to v7.
