Upgraded to 7.9.7 and I hate it, any options available? And Why is Gray on Gray the color choices?

Actually, this comment / message box is a great example of what’s wrong with SuiteCRM.

How the hell am I supposed to read what I’m typing? Is this a eye exam or a forum to get help? Seriously, Darker gray on gray isn’t good color

I’ve been using SuitCRM for the last three years and after today’s “upgrade” I think I’m done. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars in the upgrade store (so I don’t really want to hear about it’s “open source”, which doesn’t mean it doesn’t have to compete in the real world), and I’m -><- this close to packing it up and finding another solution. In fact, I don’t think I’ve gone more than six months in the last three years without at least looking because sooooo much needs to be done to make this “work.”

f***k it’s frustrating trying to read what I’m typing. Small ass gray font on a gray background. Obviously no one running the show knows the first thing about publishing. Hint, not everyone is 24 years old with perfect vision guys…

Is there any way to change the font colors so they can be seen by adults?

Is there any way to get rid of modules that aren’t being used? For example, after upgrading, I now have “Products and services Purchased”

Is there any way to remove relationships that suitecrm appears to “demand” everyone have?

Sorry for the rant, I just wish at this point watching the platform (and this forum) degrade in actual usability I would have gone with a different solution. I hope my frustration is proven wrong, albeit I’m pretty well convinced those calling the shots aren’t actually having to use the platform in the way the typical user is.

What do you mean you “spent hundreds of dollars on the upgrade store”? I’d say “hundreds of dollars” is more than enough to pay an expert to make the CRM suit your needs, including basic color tweaks which are really easy to do, and are documented in dozens of posts on these forums.

And yes, it’s easy to remove modules and hide relationships you don’t use.

Version 7.10 will be getting more, and better, color schemes:

I’m sorry you’re not having a good experience, and I agree there are many things requiring urgent improvement, but maybe also your approach to this project wasn’t the best. Normally I look at SuiteCRM projects as “save on the initial price (zero), then spend on some customization to make it suit your particular needs, and solve your particular problems”.

Hi PGR,

I look forward to reading how to remove modules and hide relationships on your blog, a place where it will be easy to read and find. Or even as a reply.

Your comment about hundreds of $ “is more than enough to pay an expert to make the CRM…” is interesting since you’re not in a position to know what my needs are. Thanks for the link though, albeit you may want to remind people you share it with that it’s relatively easy to hire someone who’s learning as they’re going and/or writes crap for code.

Color is for sure a problem, but layout and functionality is too. Many things are taken for granted (for example, what it costs for someone else to get what they want) in places that should allow user input.

Anyway, thanks for your reply and i very much look forward to learning about removing modules and hiding relationships…

The simplest approach to hiding modules and subpanels is by using

Admin > Display Modules and Subpanels (which modules and subpanels are accessible)
and
Admin > Configure Module Menu filters (organization of top menu)

A more fine-grained approach (but more complex) is to use Security Settings to hide and display modules based on users, groups, and roles. This allows some distinction between view access, edit access, etc.

About that Upwork site - I never used it, but it is my understanding it has a ratings and reviews system that provides some security about who you’re hiring and their abilities.

You also have SalesAgility themselves if you want to be sure they know what they’re doing, and you want a quality product. I suppose they are more expensive, though (but I never checked their fees). There’s also UrdhvaTech, and many others.

The hundreds of dollars I mentioned “should be sufficient” were merely for these things you are asking, hiding /displaying modules, improving colors…

Thanks for your reply, I used some of the information you provided, and I think I read every post on your blog.

What I need is to remove relationships and also show/no show sub panels based on fields in an account or primary module.

For example, I use the CRM for commercial/business customers and for consumers. commercial accounts have different requirements of information than consumer accounts, and it would be great if panels and subpanels showed/no show based on if the account type was commercial or personal type.

Thanks again for any direction.

SuiteCRM does not have the ability to show different layouts based on field conditions. It can be programmed to make that, of course, since it can be programmed to do anything, but that feature is not there out-of-the-box.

I’d say the more natural way of attempting that in SuiteCRM is simply to use Contacts for consumer accounts, and Accounts for business Accounts. That way you probably find the fields already match what you need to a greater extent, and it’s easy to change each layout to better match your specific requirements.
