Update 7.9.1 removed themes

So I updated to the latest 7.9.1 version from 7.8.3.
This removed all other themes and now defaults to the ‘Suite P’ theme (I see what you did there).
Personally I don’t like this - is there any chance of running the ‘old’ theme again?
If not can I at least alter the colours??

TIA

Sorry, but no, you can’t use the previous themes for technical reasons.

You can:

  • customize variables.scss and recompile sass

or

  • edit directly on style.css, moving the file to custom directory

or

  • if you’re concerned with spacing, not colors, go and get everything ready-made from here:

Just found this: https://suitecrm.com/forum/suite-themes/14632-only-1-theme-in-suite-7-9

Time for some ‘playing’ then

I really dislike the new theme. A lot of users simply what a black and white screen like we’ve had for years. For those with visual issues, the colors make the system more difficult to use.

What is SuiteCRM thinking when they removed the very serviceable previous themes for current one?

What they were thinking… this is my view, and my personal opinion, on the sequence of events:

There was a need for a technological update on the underlying UI framework. So they took the opportunity and got some designers to make a theme that stands out. Both of these are Good Things.

So, the colour scheme is ok for some, not for others. After a year or so it can be a bit tiring. Because the colours they went for are not a classical, bland thing like blue-and-white. They are more fashionable, great for a presentation selling the product, not so great to spend 8 hours a day, every day working on it. This is a mixed Good and Bad Thing.

The spacing seems like it was meant for mobile screens and finger operation. But most people use it on desktops and with a mouse. This is a Bad Thing.

Now, when the time came for the Email module, it involves a lot of UI work, so it was limited to one Theme. Resources are limited at SalesAgility (more than most people believe). This was a Good Thing.

The truth is, we’re not so far from a sweet spot: a few options for colours, a fix for spacing, and we’ll all be happy with a better-technology theme, and with a new Email module. This will be an Excellent Thing.

And I think it’s great that the Community solved its own problems and came up with SuitePImproved, while we wait for a more definitive solution.
