Target list? What are they and how should they be used?

I read the documentation for “target list” here:
https://docs.suitecrm.com/user/core-modules/target-lists/

Targets into groups, these can be groups of individuals that should be excluded from a particular

But I still not sure what they are and how they should be used. To me a target would be someone you (really) want to have contact with (for whatever reason, usually sales), but according to the definition it is the reverse? Seems pretty confusing to me…

Can you guys please explain it to me like I was 5 years old with what targets really are and how they should be used?

Thanks a bunch! :+1:

Targets are in fact, people you want to contact.

You can put them in a list called Target List.

But then you can also have Target Lists for other secondary purposes. A common case is to handle exclusion lists and bounced email lists.

The Target List types section should make everything clear:

I guess the initial paragraph in the Docs should be more focused on the “default” Target List types, instead of the more exceptional types.

Thanks @pgr for your kind reply.

I’m sorry, but I’m still a bit confused.

But leads… (Which I’m very used to from the past working in CRM systems ), are they not a target list in their own way?

In our case for example; we bought the lead list with specific companies in specific industries and contact person in certain roles.

So with that said… what makes “target” different from “leads”?

Thanks a again!

Hi,

Target lists allow you to build a list of Contacts or Leads that you will use in Campaigns so that you can define which people you want to contact in this campaign.

Just to add to above: a Target List can have several types of members:

  • Contacts
  • Leads
  • Targets
  • Accounts
  • Users

Basically, if you can email it, it can be in a Target List.

Maybe what is less intuitive is understanding why the 3 levels of Target, Lead, Contact.

This old document helps with that:

Thanks @blqt and @pgr a big bunch! :facepunch: :+1:

That helped me a lot to understand it better.

So basically targets are not “sales” but more “marketing” related (with a marketing campaign that you are planning) with building lists for, for example emailing them some kind of information etc?

Kind regards

The way am using targets it to put cold, lists of people that i want to market to… Once they showed some interest, said yes to sales they are considered warm or hot into leads… from there our acquisitions manager tries to convert the leads into an actual sale, and a account is created.
