"security groups" do I really need it?

Hi everyone,

I’m a newcomer to SuiteCRM, I would appreciate your opinion about “Security Group”.

I am configuring the permissions for the Users and I question about the real need to create “security groups”, since:

  • We only have two teams, all users will access to the same records, a single team is responsible to collect and create “LEADS” (without geographic or any kind of restrictions) which in turn forwards the “LEADS” to the sales team (which handles all “Leads”, without any geographic or any kind restrictions).
  • Since I can apply the “Roles” directly to the users (they are few), I ask if there is value in having “security groups”?

Am I missing something?

The main purpose of security groups is to assign particular access rights to groups of users. However there is additional use, which will allow the non-admin members of groups to assign records to users of the same groups.

Thank you for your help,
But still, I can create a role and assign it directly to users (they are few)
And still, without a “security group” users still can assign records to each other.

I think I understand the logical reason for the “security group” existence.
I just do not find a good reason to implement it, in my situation.

You shouldn’t worry for not using the groups. Just go ahead and do things your own way, if at some point you need them, add them.
