Hello, I activated this on my test environment, Do I need to create a cron tab in linux for this prune to work?
You need to activate a single cron entry in Linux for the entire SuiteCRM Scheduler system to work.
See Admin / Schedulers for instructions.
Then, once that is working, you manage each entry in that screen from within SuiteCRM. The “prune” job is one of those in that list.

Why is deactivated by default “Prune Database on 1st of Month”?
I don’t know, but I’ve thought about that in the past. My conclusion is that since it’s an option that deletes data, and reduces your ability to recover data, it should be made a conscious decision by administrators, not a default. But it is arguable, of course.
