Newbie Question on Developer Career

I’m loving this CRM. I’m not a computer programmer, unless you consider programming in BASIC, back in 1985. I’m interested in maybe starting up a freelancing business helping companies use Suite Crm. I’m a professional sales trainer by trade. I’m looking at options to become a developer for Suite CRM. The question is, can a guy with no experience in programming but lots of CRM usage make a decent career out of this? Also, should I start learning? PHP first? Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated on where to start. I’m a disabled vet, so I have time to learn.

Short answer:

yes :white_check_mark:

you absolutely can build a fulfilling freelancing or consulting career around SuiteCRM, even without a traditional programming background.

Long answer:

Hello Phillip,

probably you can, but I don’t understand the direction

Selling is the important thing for a company.
How one would implement the solutions that have been sold is rather unimportant (from a business point of view).

I’d keep on doing sales, bring in the business and partner up with others to build projects / solutions, if that’s what you’re good at.

Often times, you don’t have to develop PHP and JS for that and much is possible on the data architecture / module / workflow side of things.

And learning to develop in the age of AI … well, of course you can - but AI can do the stuff much faster / better than a human ever could (including helping you to learn way faster - in case you’d like to look into it more).
For specifics around SuiteCRM development, you’d “just” need to figure out, which AI answer is for the SugarCRM code and which one for the SuiteCRM code.

Thank you. That was helpful. I’m just in exploratory mode now. I do appreciate your help.

Thank you for your answer. It gives me more to think about. I’ll look into the AI aspect more.
