Mark Contacts Emails Invalid by upload not working?

I’m trying to mark a bunch of contact’s email as invalid after having run through a list cleaner. However, when I upload to update the contacts, it doesn’t seem to be working. I followed the instructions here but but just not working.

Is there a trick to this? Anyone do this successfully? Or should I assume it’s a bug?

As a side note, when importing NEW records, with “invalid =1” it does mark the records as invalid.
