Make dynamic drop down menus ALSO free text

Hi,
I’m customising suite crm for event management purposes.
Currently a dynamic drop down menu is used to select the client from the contact module.
This is great for various reasons.

The only problem is, certain people complained as when they’re taking a booking over the phone for a new client it takes too long to click on the add button, then create contact and save it, then fill in the other information.

At the moment if someone types something that isn’t in the database it gets erased immediately.
I was therefore wondering is it possible to make that text box also free text?

Your requirement isn’t clear. Can you explain what is being erased, provide some screen shots?

What I mean is:

You know the ‘relate fields’ that are connected to other modules?
I’m talking about the fact that if you type anything in there that isn’t already in the database, i.e. doesn’t appear in the dynamic drop down menu, then when you click out of it, the text is erased from the text box.
