Mail account properties in gmail

Sorry if this is a dumb question as I am a newbie. I’ve set up mail account properties for one user. The company uses gmail for business and I am not the admin for this account.

From inside the mail account properties, I test and outgoing and incoming email works. However, after carefully, saving and closing, I can return to the same mail account properties and it does not work. It is like the password is not being stored. Any idea what is causing this?

I hired someone to solve this problem as it was time critical. I was using the same email for different purposes and once the extra accounts were deleted, the emails are sent as expected. It had nothing to do with gmail.
