How to start planning for CRM introduction?

Hello,

not directly a CRM tech issue but:
In my current project, I’m working for a small startup where the CEO seems to be allergic against any planning or documentation.
Hence, for the CRM, there is nothing, but it’s important for him, that all processes (which don’t exist, and he will not write down / document) will work smooth.

How would you handle a client like this?
Sometimes I get some insides in his ideas, and I’m taking notes.
Would you just start writing a documentation of the processes you think would be good?

For our clients that are in a similar ‘small startup’ scenario - I would start really simple.

Hide as many modules as you can.

E.G
Lead - Company - Contact - Activities

Go through each module you decide to keep and remove fields that are not needed for your organisation

Make the user input as simple as possible on every record in the process

Advise regular - online / meetings with the CEO for ‘hands on demo’

Focus a session on each module

  • Field layouts?
  • What additional custom fields etc -
  • What automations do we need ?

If possible - make the changes before the next session

Once you have had a session / sign off for changes - I would advice a Powerpoint or something is created with screenshots and guide notes - this can be a working document and if needs to be updated for changes that come later

Recording videos is always another great option we do for our clients but I would suggest waiting a few months once all of the initial changes are ironed out

Hope this helps

I find it easier to do screen share walkthroughs and save the videos to Vimeo for the client. Some basic videos can be re-used once you have a library and you don’t have do too much documentation. People seem to learn better by watching anyway. I find I can make a screenshare video faster than writing it all down with screen shots. Vimeo even has a Chrome plugin that makes it super easy.
