How do you set up email account with Gmail 2 step verification?

I have a client that has a Google apps account has set up two-step verification and its causing problems with setting up an inbound account with the CRM. What’s the solution when the client does not want to turn off two-step verification? I do not see anything in the documentation that addresses this.

You can create app specific passwords for the google account.

These can be used by programs that aren’t compatible with 2FA
