How do we know that there is an Update on a case Thread ?

Apart from the emails, is there a way via which a CRM user can be notified that there is an update to the case via AOP Portal?
Maybe we can call last modified by field in dashlet so the user can see at a glance that the record has been updated by the portal user.
Any other suggestions ?

Normally the case update in the aop settings would work. However, since upgrading to SuiteCRM 7.9 it doesn’t seem to work at all. Please help!
