How do I add an "Add File" or "Attachment field?

I would like to add an attachment field/function to the Leads so that users can attach external files such as saved emails, pictures, etc. to a lead. Can somebody please explain how to do this?

Click on a Lead
When you are in the Lead’s EditView, click on History
then click on Create Note or Attachment

Thank you for answering. The solution does work, but is not as simple for users as being able to attach a file while creating.

Is there any way to add an attachment field to the EditView?
