Google Maps Feature Questions?

Just wondering if anyone uses the Maps feature regularily. I’ve used it a bit, now have a client who just loves it and is aggressively using it. This has brought up a few questions.

  1. What happens when an adress i changed in an Account for example. Is it supposed to re-geocode it? Or do I have to delete the cached address for that account if the address changes?
  2. There is a list of export URL’s in the plugin that are supposed to download a CSV of un coded Accounts, or example. However, while I do get a CSV, it’s empty and does not contain any records of un encoded accounts (the count tells me there are 86).

If anyone uses this regularily and can provide some insight or best practises, I’d really appreciate it.

If I am not wrong, you can go to Admin → Geocode Addresses option and copy cron URL and set up your schedular for google address cache.

Also, explore address cache option in the admin panel.

Thanks @rsp, yes I’ve done that the cron is working and new accounts get geocoded. My question is around existing records. If the address changes, do they get re-coded?

If the address in an existing account changes, the geocoding data does not automatically refresh. To update the geocoding data for changed addresses, you might need to manually trigger the re-geocoding process.

So the answer is NO, it does not re-code records who’s address has been changed.

I’ll have to see if I can get a workflow or a before save hook that might make it re-code it.
