Getting lost in setting this up

I have setup SuiteCRM on my server as I feel this will be one of the better tools to use.

I don’t have a need for the fully blown features, but mainly want to use it to track sales data. My current system at work already handles all the client information, along with accounts, etc. It is just not good at the pipeline management piece.

Looking to track the following information…

Date of Enquiry
State of Residence
Customer’s Full name
Contract ID # (unique number as per our existing system, kind of like a customer number)
Type of deal (New Car, Used Car, Re-Lease, Leaseback)
Sales Stage (we have around 12 different sales stages, and I want line this up with my existing work platform)

Then be able to track successes versus failures, last time I contacted a client and what method (email, phone), comments relating to the interaction, etc.

I believe I can customise SuiteCRM to do what I want above, but unsure how. Really don’t want to have to add each customer in as a contact, and then setup a lead for them etc. Just want to keep it simple.

Currently using a spreadsheet to track this information, but as I am getting more and more customers to manage, this spreadsheet is blowing out and would prefer to use something web based.

Any ideas on where to start?
