Exploring a Slide-over UX concept in SuiteCRM 8 (experiment)

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently been experimenting a little with the SuiteCRM 8 front-end to see how far the current UI architecture can be pushed in terms of navigation patterns.

One small thing I tried was a Slide-over style panel for opening records from a list view. The idea is simple: instead of navigating away from the list, the record opens in a panel from the right side of the screen while the background context stays visible.

Below is a quick screenshot from the experiment.

The prototype is very incomplete and not something I plan to continue developing. It was mainly a technical exploration to see whether this type of interaction could work with the current UI structure.

Even in this rough state, it was interesting to see that SuiteCRM’s modern UI actually has quite a lot of potential for different navigation patterns, such as:

  • slide-over panels
  • contextual record viewing
  • possibly stacked record navigation in the future

Of course, actual UI changes are something that belongs to the SuiteCRM core roadmap, and I don’t want to get ahead of that work. My goal here is simply to share the experiment and encourage discussion about possible UX directions.

SuiteCRM already has a solid foundation, and it’s exciting to see how the modern UI could evolve over time.

Curious to hear what others think about this type of navigation approach.

Thanks to the SuiteCRM developers for all the work going into the platform.

The new UI lends itself to all sorts of new things and makes some of those ideas much easier, and not all of it belongs in core.

For example for one client we built a help system, that allowed admins of the system to configure a “help text” and set rules (similar to workflow rules), then one or more help texts appeared in the insights bar when those rules were matched, it worked quite nicely and allowed the actual users of the system to set-up the help and rules around the help/scripts they wanted.
