ERROR: Failed to connect to server. Code: 110 << SMTP error

Hi all,
Im having a little bit of an issue trying to get this CRM working everything is set up correctly yet im getting the log error below.
im using 1and1.co.uk hosting, no other site i run from there is having an issue connecting to the SMTP host so i dont think its 1and1, is there a location i can go to so that i can hard code the smtp?

What happens when you enter the credentials in Admin -> Email Settings and before saving click ‘Test Settings’?
