Directory /.../custom/modules/Project/language: permission denied

I have a Bitnami instance of SuiteCRM running on AWS. When I try and open /…/custom/modules/Project/language (so I can change the terminology on a relationship) it gives me an error saying “permission denied” then another error saying Failed to retrieve directory listing.

This is using Filezilla with a secured FTP connection. The folder permissions are 770.

Ideas/Suggestions

I telneted in and chmoded it to 775 and could access… but was there a good reason it was 770?
