Contract (and other templates) output in ODT (and/or DOCX)

Hi all –

We do reviews on a lot of contracts (as a customer and as a vendor). Reviewing and marking up PDFs is possible, but it’s a lot easier using an editable format and track changes.

Because the templates are all HTML-based, it shouldn’t be impossible to generate an ODT (and/or DOCX, but let’s stay to free formats) from the same code. We could use this as a starting point for contract review, and then attach the final copy (although a complete revision process would be neat, it’s probably out of scope).

Any ideas on how we can generate a different file type from the same source code?

This doesn’t exist out-of-the-box, but you’re right it should be possible and I see there are PHP packages to convert to ODT which could be integrated into SuiteCRM.

BTW, note that DOCX is a free format. It’s openly documented and royalty free, even though it’s created by Microsoft, they intended it as an open format. That’s why LibreOffice can both open and save in DOCX.
