I haven’t used it in SuiteCRM before, but as far as open source mail servers I like IRedMail. Very simple setup and completely free. If you want more of a graphical admin interface you can pay for the pro version, but it’s not necessary. I’ve got an IRedMail server in production (free version) and it’s been no downtime for over 6 months. I believe it is only compatible on Linux based systems though, so if you’re running a Windows server it will have to be in a virtual machine.
I would say the way SuiteCRM interacts with a mail server is pretty standard. So just chose a good mail server for your needs, and you should be fine with SuiteCRM.
Which email client do you plan to use? That’s a more nuanced question, because if you need to relate SuiteCRM records to emails, you need an integrated client (like the outlook plugin, or like the internal SuiteCRM email client). I’m not sure I understand what you mean when you speak of dropping the “client-side integration” for a “server-side integration”… what exactly is that?
we are looking to hmailserver and mdaemon as mail servers.
Regarding server side, it means that the archiving of emails will not require a plugin, like outlook plugin, the archive will take place on the mail server up on reception of the email, it will validate the CRM looking for the contact and then making the archive - hope this makes it clear.
You didn’t answer my question about which mail client you intend to use… I’m just trying to understand your architecture. I guess it only makes sense of talking about an “email integration” when thinking about both sides of the equation, client+server.
It looks like you’re about to write your own integration plug in…
We will be using outlook as a client, but users are not happy with the usage of the outlook CRM integration in terms of functionality - if you send emails from phone mail client it will not be logged, if the functionality is on the server side (email server) this will not be a problem.
Thanks, I think I’m getting it now. I had never thought about this possibility of working with SuiteCRM from the mail server, but I guess it does make some sense.
SuiteCRM is quite extensible and customizable, you’ll probably need to choose a mail server that you can change the code, or at least extend it through some plug-in mechanism.
Please share some news with us as you develop your solution, it could be interesting to more people.
Indeed there is already a company doing the server integration for some mail providers, but I consider the price quite expensive 12.5 euros per user per month…
