Basic Concept: Leads-> Accounts/Contacts (Why do Leads not have Opportunities?)

Hi suiteCRM,

I work B2B with large corporations as customers. Duration from first contact to conversion can be 2 Years.

My definition for a Conversion-Trigger from a Lead to Account: The lead bought my product for the first time.
Thats is why I would like to have Leads with open opportunities.

Opportunities could be inherited i.e. taken over to the account when converted.
This brings the advantage that forecasting/reporting is much more realistic (as leads also can contribute to the opportunity-pipeline).

The work-Flow of suite CRM does not alow this. Why?

Two reasons why I don’t want to convert Leads before I add a opportunity:

  1. I could not measure/report, how long it takes from a Lead to a Customer (i.a. duration until 1st. Sale)
  2. I could not measure/report, how many active customers I have

Can you explain, why Leads do not have opportunites?
Are there ressources about this subject?

With best regards,
Silvester.

Because if there is an Opportunity, it is not a lead. Leads are unqualified. To generate an Opportunity, you need to qualify a lead. Fairly basic sales principle.
