The button does not delete the email, it only removes the relationship to the opportunity
My bad. Yes, we want to remove the relationship between that email and opportunity.
I think I found the DB solution, I have set deleted = 1 in the emails table.
Trying to cleanup this functionality on my instance of 8.7. I might try to just remove the “archive” item of the button. Broken features just confuse users.
I was looking to use this feature to log an email sent by a local email client instead of within SCRM. Seems like a similar idea to the “Log Call” feature, since we’re not actually placing a call within SCRM. Maybe a modified version could be called “Log Activity”. @pstevens I watched a video of yours that included using the Log Call features and it was kind of a light bulb moment for me. If I’m going to be contacting 100+ customers in a day I need this feature to be as few clicks as possible.
I’d still love to find out the actual purpose of this button if anyone knows!
In earlier versions of Sugar, if you had installed the Sugar Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook, you could automatically import emails and relate them to specific records.
Users who didn’t have this plug-in could manually create copies of email messages for archival purposes.
Subsequently, the import mechanisms were expanded, but the manual import option remained.
Quote from Pedro’s link:
Archiving Emails
When a copy of a sent or received email message is stored in Sugar, it is considered an archived email. Users cannot edit an email’s content, dates, or recipients once it has been archived.
Manually Creating Archived Emails
Users who do not have an email account configured in Sugar or who would like to log an email that was not automatically archived can manually create copies of email messages for archival purposes. To create an archived email in Sugar, navigate to the Emails module and select “Create Archived Email” from the Emails module menu.
Alternatively, navigate to the record that you would like to relate to the archived email and select “Create Archived Email” from the record’s History dashlet.
The email composer window will open where you can manually copy the contents of an email you have already sent or received outside of Sugar.
Manually creating archived emails is still available in SuiteCRM version 7.x, but was removed from the latest 8.x versions.
Thanks @likhobory it doesn’t actually do anything in SuiteCRM 7 either. There is no emai body field so it’s kind of useless.
By the way, yes, SugarCRM CE also doesn’t save the email body, but it does save attached documents and files, unlike SuiteCRM. In any case, it’s now clear what this button was originally intended for ![]()
