a connection to the database could not be established

Hello!

I’ve been going around in circles trying to figure out why I can’t connect to my DB.

Error: The provided database host, username, and/or password is invalid, and a connection to the database could not be established. Please enter a valid host, username and password

I have tried using localhost, 127.0.0.1, server name, domain name … nothing will work.

I am positive I am using the correct username, password and DB name.

I used these instructions for installation

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi

although that guide seems nice and complete, I don’t know why it tells you to create a DB before the install. I never do that, I let the installer do it.

I also use Ubuntu 16.04 and I’ve posted my own list of “install notes” here:

It’s simple, straight-forward, and works. Note that I use MySQL, not MariaDB. Never had problems connecting to it.

I decided to start over with Mysql and it worked fine… I am having email setup troubles, But that may be better suited on a new thread.
