Why is it NOT possible to DELETE history items?

I have just tried to "remove"history items from a contact.

When I try to do that it tells me “Only the relationship is removed … not the actual item”.

I then looked into the modules directory directly, the “History” module does not have a lot of features, i.e. no entry in the menu!

Is there any way to savely remove History items?

The History panel aggregates data from other modules. So the correct way to delete records is from the individual modules - notes, emails. etc
