Still can't email with Suite. What is the problem?

I thought that by now the email issues would have been fixed but I just installed 7.9.5 and I still canā€™t compose an email to anyone on the database. I get:

Error Sending Email. Please contact your administrator for assistance.

and when I click the little trash icon to quit the email it logs me out saying:

You have been logged out because your session has expired.

I can do a test email from the Admin menu. Works fine.

Will someone please post a check-list of things to look for that will solve the problem. Otherwise weā€™re going to EOL our Suite and move on to another CRM system that we can host on our server (as opposed to a subscription / 3rd party vendor.)

Anyone? Please?

Thank you.

Please note that 7.9.5 is a security release, the next one will be the one with the (badly needed) email bugfixes.

You have also the option of using 7.8.5 which has the old email module, much more stable.

There are many people getting SMTP Connect errors which I am still unsure if they are SuiteCRMā€™s fault. Some people get them with Gmail, some people donā€™t. It could be a phpmailer bug. Or even a Gmail bug, though less likely. It could be domain name configuration problems, these affect certificate-based authentication. Iā€™m following a few of these issues but itā€™s still inconclusive.

If you want to concentrate on one of your problems, and try to get to the bottom of it, I can try to help. Choose the one that looks the most basic and letā€™s debug. If itā€™s too much work for you, then install 7.8.5, or move to another productā€¦

please show screen shot of your Email Configuration under the profileā€“>Adminā€“>Email management tab

The ā€˜add fileā€™ button on this chat board system does not work for me. I get ā€˜roll overā€™ showing accepted extensions, but no selection screen pops up. (Using Chrome on Mac Sierra.) Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

Anyway, as I said earlier the test email works just fine.

How do I downgrade to 7.8.5? (I wish I had never upgraded.)

Whatever the issue is, must be internal to Suite because the test email form the email admin settings works just fine.

As for moving to another system, while the 7.9 version of Suite is still a work-in-progress with itā€™s horrible theme and running way slower than the previous version, at least everything that I NEED it for works OK.

Also, there are very few CMS systems out there that I can get for a low price (or open source) that I can run on my own local server via a LAMP stack. Most are hosted solutionsā€¦ and we are not going to put our important data on a 3rd party server. Did you folks see the news yesterday about the hack of Equifax? Sugar, X2, Tiger, and Suite are the only ones I know of that are still standalone products.

So we will stay with Suiteā€¦ been here from just about day-one and the amount of work to migrate is just too much and we would not initiate that unless Suite becomes totally untenable.

Again, Iā€™d like to know how to downgrade. Is there a written guide for doing that?

use Pasteboard or Pastebin (one is good for text, the other for pictures)

Downgrade:

impossible, forget about it. The best path (or maybe the least-worse path) would be to start from a full backup you might have from 7.8.x, and then patiently and carefully migrate your most recent data back to it. It could prove to be a nightmare unless your essential data is not very complicated, and any complicated things are not essential and you can drop themā€¦

Fixing Email in 7.9.5:
This Issue will probably teach you some nice debugging and diagnosing techniques. Keep in mind that there were problems with passwords not being saved correctly, so the fact that the ā€œTest send emailā€ works and the other sendings donā€™t work, could be because of that. These diagnosis would show you whether you have a password problem or not.

You might gain something by re-configuring email in 7.9.5, any incorrect email configurations due to previous bugs could be cleaned up.

I hope this helpsā€¦

I have the same problem.
I generate a quote but when trying to send it by mail to a contact it generates error.
Here are some of the errors:
The sender field (From: ) does not work and does not let a sender enter either.
Do not attach the quote PDF when indicated (Send PDF quote by mail).
When you send send generates error and then you remove me from the session (Error Sending Email. Please contact your administrator for assistance)

I looked at the thread above with all of the postings but didnā€™t find an answer.

Personally, I donā€™t think anyone at Suite actually knows the answer as to why some people can emailā€¦ and others canā€™t.

I hate to leave Suiteā€¦ but Iā€™ve started the process of looking for a replacement CRM that we can run on our own server. The only one I know about is X2Engine so I guess Iā€™ll give that a try. I donā€™t know how I will migrateā€¦ maybe we will just take our last year of data and enter it manually int a new CRM.

Maybe it is time for us to abandon the open source CRM world and find a hosted system. True, we will pay for itā€¦ but at least everything should work (or most everythingā€¦ OK, OKā€¦ at least the email!!!)
