Search in module for fields other then 'name'

I have a custom module built with module builder. I am not using the name field at all for this module and have fields of interest in a drop down list. I want to be able to search on this field by default in the custom module.

The field I want to search on is a dependant drop down list so the keys are prefixed and the display value isn’t. This might be an issue when it comes to searching?

Can you provide some screen shots? You should be able to search on any drop down values as I understand.
