Quotes for one-off products

We do a lot of quotes on one-off products. I have set suitecrm up with a DUMMY product that I use for all these one-off quotes. This works well, and stops my product list becoming clogged up with products that never made it past the quote stage.

The downside of this approach is that if the quote is accepted I need to manually re-create the DUMMY product as an actual product. This is clearly not desirable.

Is there a way to automate this?

Have you tried just doing it as a “service line” in the quote. It doesn’t link to a product and you can make it whatever you want. No need to change it later. Not sure if your using costing vs. pricing, can’t remember if it keeps track of costing, but you’ll be able to use as as many one offs as you like without changing later.
