When saving a new Opp or account we receive n http 500 error. the account/opp has been created fine with no problems.

Is this a new installation, or was it running before that ok?
Also, turn on display errors in your hosting and tell us what it says.
Also, tell us what the sutiecrm error log says.
All this would be helpful to try and assist you.
