How to speed up email operations?

I find that deleting emails from the web interface causes the system to hang for up to a minute. Importing emails without deleting them is much, much quicker.

Is there a way to speed this process up? The lag seriously dents productivity.

Unless someone has a mail plugin for Mac Mail or Outlook for Mac?
