How do you use Bugs and cases?

Sorry for a very basic question, but the difference between a bug and a case is not clear to me. For example, google resulted in the following two statements found in sugarcrm help files:-

“Cases module is used to track and manage product or service related problems reported to your organisation by customers”

“Bugs module is used to track and manage product related problems, commonly referred to as bugs or defects, either found internally or reported by customers.”

Surely the above conditions could be dealt with in one module?

Cases can be set up to poll mailboxes(see inbound mailboxes in admin) so that case records are created when people email a support mailbox. There is also a portal for the cases module.

The bugs module as it stands is just a basic module to record bug information(normally used for internal system bugs, instead of cases which is generally used for external/client support).
