How can we get the community more involved

Before Chatgpt this used to be a well populated place with lots of ideas exchanged and lots of posters. I for one miss the good old days. Is everyone just asking Chatgpt now an only coming here when Chatgpt can’t answer?

What can we do to get more people to post, ask questions, share ideas and make this community thrive?

Anyone have ideas?

I’m still active here and often come to the forum first when I’m looking for SuiteCRM answers or want to exchange ideas. I do use ChatGPT sometimes too, especially when I’m stuck or need another perspective. :100:

Maybe encouraging more questions, sharing solutions, and starting discussions could help bring some of that old activity back. :light_bulb:

I’d definitely love to see the community become more active again!

Hey Paul,

it’s the same like on Stackoverflow and many other communities (despite reddit maybe, but the AI - in form of spam - is very active itself over there  ).

I can understand it completely.
Instead of posting a question with a problem, one is sitting in front of, maybe waiting for a few hours / days or even get now reply at all, I can chat with an AI and often it can help out instantly. (not always on the first try - but overall, it’s much faster and better then issue solving via forums).
Here, I assume, that the usage / adoption of SuiteCRM didn’t drop suddenly by some 80% but the AI usage of issue solving went up by that amount.

Remembering the more active times here, I believe a large amount of threads / questions only came up, because of a wrong server setup or a technical detail, which had little to do with SuiteCRM. In these cases, I’m actually happy about less questions here. These always belonged to serverfault and other admin forums. They had little to nothing to do with CRM.
And another big share was the standard answer like quick repair and look into your logs (even that’s better now, one can simply paste log output into an LLM).

Instead of trying to compete with AI (low “quality”, unrelated, top of funnel, technical topics) the community would fit from real world, in depth, practical experience threads. I’ve got a few ideas, Paul, you’ve already posted some real good ones with exchange and discussion potential - let’s focus on these and be more proactive there.

I think this is a very good point.

AI has definitely changed the way people approach troubleshooting. For many of the simple “I have this error, what should I check?” questions, people can now get an answer much faster without opening a forum thread.

Maybe that means the SuiteCRM community needs to evolve rather than try to compete with AI.

I would love to see more discussions around real-world SuiteCRM implementations: what worked, what didn’t, architecture decisions, integrations, performance at scale, upgrade experiences, customisation approaches, lessons learned, and even examples of how different businesses are actually using SuiteCRM.

Those are the kinds of topics where community experience is much more valuable than a generic AI answer.

The goal shouldn’t necessarily be to get more questions. It should be to get better conversations.

The SuiteCRM team could train an AI model :robot: on the entire community’s questions and answers and add an AI search field to the community. It could display answers and related topics below. :face_with_peeking_eye:

Also, do you guys know that SugarCRM changed its brand name to SugarAI? :face_with_tongue:

ChatGPT is fully trained on the SuiteCRM forums. That’s where it gets all its answers.

The direction CRM’s are going is AI first. Basically, take the people out of the CRM, no need for a front end. Just have the AI create and update the data and then just a reporting layer and answering layer for humans who want to know “what does the funnel look like”. Fundamentally, not sure this is the right direction. The whole point of a CRM, other than reporting is to keep people aligned and communicating through what they enter in the CRM. It’s not just data, its communication (if it’s used properly).
