Having issues with installing 8.2 as a new installation

I have used SuiteCRM in the past, 10 years ago, and am working with a new client to install,train, modify and support SuiteCRM. I would appreciate some basic assistance as some things have changed from version 6 and I seem to have lost some b rain cells as I get older.

I am using the ver. 8.2 download and instructions. One, I did not find the install.php file in the web root directory where I expected it to be. PHP is installed, MariaDB is running and Apache is delivering its initial testing page.

I have been unable to find a forum with installation and setup issues.

Sorry to go back to newbie status but if someone can point me I would appreciate it.

You are correct. I am doing a clean install and exploded the zip in the webroot mine is (public_html) as directed. The install.php is two levels down in public_html/public/legacy. Check the details in the installation instructions because it tells you to download to the webroot but if you run a vhost then direct to a different directory.

Also, be careful and make sure any data is backed up regularly. If you connect a new install to a previous database it will wipe it out without warning or notice. No checks are done for existing data and it will be gone in a heartbeat. v8 is definitely not friendly for existing databases so be careful if you are using client data.

In v8 you’re not supposed to need that public/legacy/install.php, if your web server is correctly configured you should be able to just point to your root directory (https://www.mycompany-com or a local web address like http://localhost/) and it would find the v8 installer.

I have the apache Virtual host set to Path : /var/www/htmp/suitecrm
and port to 8080.
If I set the browser to localhost:8080/install.php, I get 404 not found. If I set to localhost:8080/public/legacy/install.php It finds the file. loads the license and the configuration pages. I enter data and click Next. Nothing happens. No MariaDB files, etc.

These files are not in /suitecrm/ locations specified. Any idea what I did wrong?

the installation directions say to set the virtual host to the /var/www/htmp/suitecrm/public folder if you installed the package at the /var/www/htmp/suitecrm directory. You do not run install.php, just point your browser to the installation directory.

I found the Installation for SuiteCRM 8 and have used that as the proper installation.
I am making some progress but seem to be stopped during the install. Apache log has the following:

: File does not exist: /var/www/html/suitecrm/public/legacy/themes/suite8/js/responsiveslides.min.js, referer: http://localhost:8080/legacy/install.php
I can not find the requested file in the downloaded directory tree.

I still do not have the directories set correctly.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
