If you’re not comfortable adding code then certainly yes, the upgrade through the User Interface is the way to go.

If your customizations are upgrade-safe, then the upgrade won’t break them.
I suppose you did all your customizations through the UI (Studio, Dropdown editor, Module Builder) so they should all be upgrade-safe.
However, you need to understand that upgrades always carry some risk and proper backups should be made prior to the upgrade (code + database).
