Choose which fields to show in subpanel

Hi, I would like to simply select the fields to show within a custom subpanel, it should be easy, but it is not.

I tried through Studio, but every time I save, it returns to the initial state.

I have tried physically editing the file that is responsible for displaying the fields in the subpanel (custom/modules/<MODULE>/metadata/subpanels/<FILE>), but it is ignored. Either by editing the existing file or by creating an _override copy.

I have done Q&R, but nothing happens, even with “Rebuild Relationships.”

It is as if there is a file from which it goes to read the list of fields to show. I also tried deleting the file mentioned above (custom/modules/<MODULE>/metadata/subpanels/<FILE>) and nothing happens, the same list of fields always appears. In this case, if I use Studio to edit the list, the file is recreated, but still nothing happens.

Do you have any idea how to solve this? Thank you.

I have run out of ideas, can anyone please help me?

If I understand correctly, what you are doing should work. In studio you can select the subpanel and then they column layout. Just make sure you’re selecting the right one on the right side of the relationship.

So lets say you have Module B that displays in Module A. You need to go to the Module B in Studio and select the subpanel layout that is for Module A.

That’s the only thing I can think of that would make it not work, if you are editing the wrong side of the relationship.

Do a quick repair and rebuild afterwards. You shouldn’t have to rebuild relationships.

I suggest this diagnostic:

  1. Create a field with an absolutely unique name such as field8562
  2. Run a QR&R
  3. Do a “find in files” (for example, grep -irn field8562 /path/to/your/SuiteCRM )

Maybe you will be surprised by which files include your field; one of them should be the one taking effect.

To solve the problem, I had to edit the original default.php file

modules/<MODULE>/metadata/subpanels/default.php

manually adding the fields I need, this way it works

it looks like you used Module Builder, then.

(it would have been useful to know that before)

Above I specified that it was a custom module, consequently I used the Builder to create it, but I never had any problems changing the layout of a subpanel with Studio or by editing the relevant file in CUSTOM/Modules…
now, however, whatever changes I tried to make were reset to zero

Module Builder is famous for not being friendly with re-deploys. I personally avoid using it. I’ve heard others recommend using it just for the initial module creation, and then dropping it entirely, and making changes only in Studio and code.

Is what I did, I always created new modules through the Builder and then abandoned and acted only through Studio. Also because I don’t know any other way to create new modules.
